Ten Tips for Success
Dress professionally in business casual attire — NO JEANS. Guys are OK with khaki or dark pants, dress shirt, and tie; girls are OK with dress pants or skirt and a nice blouse. Wear dress shoes — NO TENNIS SHOES.
If you have an interview with an employer following the career fair, your appearance is even more important. Visit Career Services' Interview Appearance and Attire.
Give yourself plenty of time when you arrive. Don’t be in a hurry.
Bring a supply of resumes to hand out to the employer representatives (there will be more than one representative for most companies). A one-page resume is fine. If you have questions about what to include on your resume, contact Career Services.
Bring a portfolio/briefcase or folder to hold resumes and corporate literature.
Prepare a one-minute commercial. Think about your goals and strong points, and be sure to mention any field experience you have had.
Be enthusiastic, keep a positive attitude and concentrate on the benefits of the experience.
Be assertive, show initiative, shake hands and introduce yourself to recruiters when you arrive at their booth.
Be prepared to discuss your future goals, what you like doing, what you are looking for in a job, and your most relevant skills.
Network — talk to others while you are waiting in line. Indulge your curiosity — check out companies that you normally would not be interested in.
